In a small cottage in the woods, where butterflies and birds fly, and deers and foxes run through the meadows, Nancy and Bill start cooking lunch while their children play in the front garden.
Mike and Emily pretend they are lost and can´t find their way home like Hansel and Gretel, but at the sound of food, they are just two regular kids who believe in magic.
They all eat silently, while dark clouds fill up the sky and thunders and lightning shake up the whole place. The children are scared, but by the time dessert reaches their mouth, only a mild rain can be seen flowing through the windows. Soon the light are all out and the children are in their beds, waiting to fall sleep to their mother´s lullaby. There are angels and fairies to watch over them, and raindrops of happiness that fall quietly in their eyes, and every dream you dream comes true if you try hard enough, birds with wide wings to keep them from harm and owls that teach to be yourself no matter how hard they tell you to be somebody else.
And soon do they fall into Orfeo´s lairs. Mike swims in the river like a trout and then sees himself following a duck, but doesn´t get wet. He wants to go where the water runs clear as a mirror for he is curious to know how he looks like. He sees himself like a duck and a swan and a boy, but can´t see where Emily is. This is where they meet every night after everyone has gone to bed. He cries out her name so that she´ll know that he´s near, but he hears nothing.
Emily wakes up near the woods and can see the cottage, but her path is blocked. She sees a small pair of wings coming her way and then a beautiful woman appears by her side, so fast that she startles the child. She tells her that she must help her to find a rare butterfly so that she can train her next student, so Emily walks barefoot through the lovely grass looking into every bush and flower, and sometimes a tree...but there are no butterflies to be seen anywhere. She starts to doubs about the fairy, maybe she is not what she seems.
Her brother calls again for Emily, and this time, is heard by her. She follows his voice and as she walks, the path seems to come alive, but the butterflies are gone (to a better place, she hopes). Before she takes the last steps to get to the pond, the lovely woman appears in front of her, demanding for a butterfly wing. Emily doesn´t believe her; however, she says that if he can get to her brother, they both may be able to help her.
Emily is safe for the moment. As she moves towards her brother, she senses that things are changing and keeps going as close to the pond as she can. She sees a duck calling out her name, so she goes into the water and grabs him, and it turns out to be Mike.
The lovely woman tries to grab them both, but Emily sneezes and she is back at the cottage and her brother is sleeping by her side. Was it a dream? Maybe, but everything seemed so real, and if it is, maybe tomorrow she´ll find out what happened to that creature that wanted to be a fairy but wasn´t.
