I just finished watching this movie set up in the 1960´s. Basically it is a musical about two people half-way around the globe that come together with the help of The Beatles´songs. It catches the Vietnam war and how it affects the soldiers going overseas, unaware of the danger they are facing, and the people at home, who are starting a revolution by protesting against the north american involvement in the war. Also, there is a love story that starts pretty easily and you can see how the road gets complicated as they move around the country, while at the same time, it keeps you wondering whether it will hold up in the end or not (you have to see it, because I´m not saying the end).
It also deals with a singer on its beginnings and how she struggles to reach the point of being known to the public outside of the bar. What I liked is that she had this sort of Janis Joplin kind of look and her guitar player reminded me a little bit of Jimi Hendrix (I have to warn you that this evaluation is based on a look-a-like of the actors, because these characters don´t quite fit the category).
I also have to acknowledge that I knew some of the lyrics, which I sang along with the actors and just listened to the other that I didn´t know that well or just never heard them before. I think that the beginning with Girl was awesome; and I honestly believe that the Hey Jude had a perfect timing with the lead actor, it sort of suited him like a globe and I just couldn´t help sing it along because that song is definitively one of my favorites.
And it really made my day the end of the movie...it was like really being back there, when it happened, and well, I was not surprised with the last song because as I said before, it flows just like the river goes back to the ocean. All the destructive ideas and all the drug using and everything else come together and it gives it a whole new meaning.
It was just one of the movies that I wish I had seen before, however, I feel really lucky that I was able to watch it at all because after some dvd player issues, my sister´s Apple computer finally came through (which ultimately means that I have to talk to the people at Blockbuster because it is very unusual that I got a parental control on the movie but not in the special features´s disc).
